Cincinnati: Ball and Thomas, 1858-1868. Four cartes de visite, one showing Ball and Thomas's studio at 120 w. 4th St. and the other three with the 30 W. 4th St. address. Near Fine. Item #List1737

A group of four photographs taken at the studio of J.P. Ball in Cincinnati. One subject is identified as Anna McClelland of Covington, KY. The others are not identified. One image, of a seated woman, bears the backstamp of the Ball and Thomas Gallery at 120 W. 4th St., the other three are from the 30 W. 4th St. address, which he built after the other studio was destroyed by a tornado in 1860. Ball and Thomas photographed prolifically during this period, and these examples provide a good example of the firm’s commercial work.
