Remarks on African Colonization and The Abolition of Slavery. In Two Parts.

Windsor: 1833. 8vo, 47 pp. Near Fine. Item #List2214

Cyril Pearl was a Vermont-based pro-colonization abolitionist who feuded locally with William Lloyd Garrison on the subject of colonization and acted as a publishing agent in Vermont for the Boston-based The Colonizationist, and Journal of Freedom, a short-lived publication published from 1833-1834 by George W. Light in Boston. In this work, Pearl - writing anonymously - takes issue with Garrison’s Thoughts on African Colonization pamphlet and makes a case for African colonization. We find little information on Pearl, save for a mention or two in correspondence relating to Garrison.
