AUCTION / I WILL OFFER FOR SALE TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER, AT THE WHITE HOUSE… WASHINGTON, D. C., at 10:00 O'CLOCK ON / WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20, 1937.

Mountain Grove: 1936. Small broadside measuring 11 x 8 ½ inches. Pin holes on margins, some small marginal tears, very good minus. Very Good. Item #List2318

This anti-FDR broadside - which did little to alter the outcome of the 1936 election - underwent a handful of printings in the leadup to the 1936 election, this one by Michael S. Glenn of Mountain Grove, Missouri. The broadside attacks various New Deal policies including the Agricultural Adjustment Act (3A). The last item on the fictional auction list is a “Vote Baiting Relief Fol De Rols,” which includes, “down and out writer projects, rag doll fantasies, tin can daubings, national youth ticklers, $50,000 ten-cent pension probes; alphabetical tom tits for making district and regional white collar pads, hat stretchers, blind-bridles for voters, wallisized and hopkin-ated electro non-talking check grinding machines, etc.” We find scant information on Michael Glenn, the copyright holder, but he likely copied an existing design, as the single institutionally-held copy at the Vermont Historical Society doesn’t show a copyright holder.
