Alfalfa came to the western United States from South America during the California gold rush era, and spread east from there. It is primarily grown as feed for livestock. Offered here are fourteen photographs (and one negative) showing alfalfa cultivation around the US, in locations including California, New York, Missouri, Arkansas, the Dakotas, Minnesota, and others. Those photos that have dates are dated between 1908 and 1929. From the archives of the Brown Brothers agency, likely their whole file on the subject, we can say with certainty this is one of the largest assemblages of press photographs of alfalfa that one is likely to encounter. Of interest to historians of American agriculture.
Price: $375.00
