Capital Almanac. 1893.
Washington? 1893? 4to, lithographed wraps, 40 pp. Wraps detached, contents excellent, good overall. Good. Item #List3508
A scarce almanac for Washington, D.C., with the first portion containing elaborately illustrated calendars for each month, with accompanying information on natural phenomena for the months including sunrise, sunsets, etc. The second part of the book contains a lengthy description of the federal government, with the final few pages describing the merits of the Louisiana State Lottery. Though the OCLC entry for the book —which finds no physical holdings—lists the publisher as “Almanac Publishing Co.,” it is quite possible that the title was published by the Louisiana State Lottery as an advertising tool. The cover shows what appears to be Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show, which famously performed at the Chicago World’s Fair that year, but to our knowledge never performed in Washington, D.C.
